The future of the Freedom Center promises to open many new and exciting chapters in the use of this consecrated land. It will always be a place of hospitality and refuge; truly granting some freedom from the frenetic and frantic pace of daily living.
Even as this is being written, needed work is continuing. Areas of underbrush are being cleared and made ready to become activity centers for the children's day-camp coming in summer 2010. Furnace Mountain Camp is going to be a cross between a Vacation Bible School and a traditional camp; helping to strengthen children spiritually, intellectually, and physically.
Pavilion In The Trees
Three areas on the back 48-acres will be prepared for use as outdoor campsites. These will consist of raised platforms that will be able to accommodate tents, yurts, and a teepee village. Jimmy McKenzie, who has obtained his Eagle Scout rank with Boy Scout Troop 1910 in Lucketts, recently reconstructed a pavilion in this area for his final project. We are looking to continue working with the Boy and Girl Scout organizations, and will be able to offer them campsites and activities that will assist in developing maturity for these young people.
