About Us

Today

The Loudoun Field Center at Glaydin, now known as the Freedom Center, is planning on continuing in its mission of offering a quiet place to learn, study, receive sustenance, and become rejuvenated by the Spirit of God.  Some of these programs are currently in operation, some are in the realization and planning stages, and others are still being developed.  Just as many pieces of fabric are brought together to make one quilt; the programs, objectives, and goals established by the Board of Directors are being sewn together to make the Freedom Center a comprehensive facility open to and serving the population of the greater Washington, D.C., area.  The renovation of the existing buildings, and the addition of new facilities, is a critical thread in this process.

The Leary School of Virginia, a private alternative educational facility for at-risk high-school students, has partnered with us and established a Job Site program on the grounds.  As in the early days of Glaydin, the school opened with four enrolled students, and is quickly growing and maturing.  These teenagers are spending their mornings learning traditional academic subjects, and the afternoons are being used for training in the construction trades.  They are rehabilitating one of the buildings on the property to give them a practical experience in using their newly acquired knowledge.  The school is looking to expand into larger quarters on-site to handle the increasing enrollment.

halversonThe winters of 2006 – 2007, 2007 – 2008, and 2008 – 2009 again saw the Freedom Center and Loudoun County join together to open an emergency shelter. This time it was a needed Cold Weather Shelter for homeless men and women. We were able to help offer some of the fundamentals to those in need: a warm and safe place to sleep, hot food, and some basic human dignity. Beginning in mid-summer 2007, we have been able to start offering facilities for private retreats and small meetings. The Hutchinson Lodge, now joined by the Liberty Lodge, have sleeping and meeting capacities of 26 in each. These are the first of a few buildings that will have a self-contained environment for groups, companies, youth organizations, and others to use for retreats, intensive workshops, and team building activities. Obviously there is a need for a facility like this in the area, as the bookings have already started coming in. We are also offering the chapel building, which is capable of hosting 100 people for meetings. Soon to follow will be the
Bardin Lodge for use by families and smaller groups.
