Operation: Summer Haven
Freedom Center, has recognized a need for safe, enjoyable summer activities for children to escape, if only temporarily, the effects of poverty.
The goal of OPERATION: SUMMER HAVEN is to provide at risk children with a temporary but necessary respite from the ravages of abuse, poverty, drug use and influence, and gang activity/pressure, by partnering with faith-based organizations and local governments to provide a safe and fun residential camp experience during the summer. We want to impart to these children that someone cares and that we can help them make choices that will engender success instead of hopelessness and the cycle of poverty.
The OPERATION: SUMMER HAVEN program will help children experience carefree fun in an outdoor environment while establishing healthy relationships with other children. OPERATION: SUMMER HAVEN will include traditional outdoor and camping skills, academic enrichment and coping skills, and career or trade skill exploration.
